Mainova Frankfurt Marathon 2020
The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon 2020 has had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Dear Runners,
It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that our event will have to be cancelled this year; in agreement with the State Government of Hessen and the City of Frankfurt we have come to the decision that the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon 2020 cannot take place. Mass gatherings at events in the state of Hessen are not permitted until October 31 unless the organizer undertakes to ensure the implementation of social distancing, adherence to hygiene guidelines and collection of contact data of all participants at the event which includes not only participants but also spectators.
This last point in particular would prove impossible for us to guarantee along a course of 42 kilometres through a major city. We greatly regret this cancellation. It goes without saying that the wellbeing of our athletes, volunteers and everyone involved in the marathon is our prime concern. In conjunction with the City of Frankfurt we agreed that the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon should only take place in its traditional form as a renowned and valued event.
A marathon held in compliance with hygiene and social distancing regulations as well as a guarantee of a complete record of contacts has little in common with this concept. A potential hygiene policy would have affected almost every area of the event. We hope to have overcome this crisis next year and that we can celebrate together on October 31, 2021 with a wonderful marathon party in Frankfurt’s “Gudd Stubb” or showpiece in the magnificent Festhalle. Registration for the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon 2021 will probably open at the end of October.
